President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla last week. The U.S. president made several strange claims about the king, prompting the Palace to respond. Now, he\u2019s done it again, pulling Charles into world politics once more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After he visited the UK last year, President Donald Trump invited King Charles and Queen Camilla to the U.S. The visit, which took place last week, was not only a gesture of courtesy but also an attempt to mend tensions between the countries amid the war in Iran.<\/p>\n

While King Charles and the rest of the Royal Family aren\u2019t speaking out on political issues, the monarch found himself in quite a dilemma. During the State Dinner at the White House, the U.S President claimed that Charles supported him on the Iran crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re doing a little Middle East work right now\u2026 and we\u2019re doing very well,\u201d Trump said over a toast. \u201cWe have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we\u2019re never going to let that opponent ever. Charles agrees with me even more than I do. We\u2019re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon. They know that, and they\u2019ve known it right now, very powerfully,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

The claim forced Buckingham Palace to issue a response. A spokesman told\u00a0The Sun, \u201cThe King is naturally mindful of his Government\u2019s long-standing and well-known position on the prevention of nuclear proliferation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Only days have passed since King Charles and Queen Camilla left the U.S. and traveled home to the UK, but Trump has already brought the monarch back into his political mission. After the royals had left, Trump stated that he would remove tariffs on whiskey from Scotland.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, who have just left the White House, soon headed back to their wonderful Country, I will be removing the Tariffs and Restrictions on Whiskey having to do with Scotland\u2019s ability to work with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Whiskey and Bourbon, two very important Industries within Scotland and Kentucky,\u201d Trump wrote on\u00a0Truth Social.<\/p>\n

The president continued by claiming that \u201cpeople have wanted to do this for a long time,\u201d calling the new development a \u201cgreat Inter-Country Trade.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking! A wonderful Honor to have them both in the U.S.A.,\u201d Trump concluded.<\/p>\n

Once again, Buckingham Palace issued a response. In a statement to\u00a0People Magazine, a Palace spokesperson said, \u201cThe King has been informed of President Trump\u2019s warm gesture and sends his sincere gratitude for a decision that will make an important difference to the British whisky industry and the livelihoods it supports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHis Majesty will be raising a dram to the President\u2019s thoughtfulness and generous hospitality as he departs the US after a most enjoyable State Visit for both Their Majesties in this special anniversary year,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

During a press conference, Trump confirmed he \u201ctook all the restrictions off, so Scotland and Kentucky can start dealing again.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news comes at a time when the whisky industry is struggling in both Kentucky and Scotland. During his administration\u2019s ongoing trade dispute, Donald Trump introduced a 10 percent tariff on imports \u2014 including Scotch whisky, according to the BBC.<\/p>\n

Leaders in Scotland and across the UK have since urged that the tariff be reduced or removed entirely. They argue that such a move would benefit both Scottish and American distillers, especially as the United States remains the world\u2019s largest consumer of Scotch, Politico\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Scotland spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year importing oak barrels from Kentucky distillers, further straining the industry.<\/p>\n
